Job Description

A&W Energy seeks a detail‑oriented Mechanical CAD Designer to support product development, manufacturing, repair, and operational improvement for oilfield equipment. The role involves creating and updating 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation, with a focus on SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and maintain 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and comprehensive manufacturing drawing packages.
  • Contribute to design and documentation for oilfield equipment and industrial components, including power ends, fluid ends, manifolds, valves, seats, frac iron, fixtures, tooling, and shop improvement projects.
  • Interpret engineering sketches, calculations, specifications, redlines, field measurements, and sample parts.
  • Produce detailed fabrication, machining, weldment, and assembly drawings for internal and external manufacturing use.
  • Apply accurate dimensions, tolerances, fits, and basic GD&T where required.
  • Support reverse engineering by measuring existing components and converting rough concepts into precise CAD models and drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality control, procurement, supervisors, and shop personnel to address design and manufacturability challenges.
  • Maintain orderly CAD files, drawing numbers, revision histories, and document control procedures.
  • Assist with bills of materials, part numbering, and purchasing support for manufactured or outsourced components.
  • Perform quality checks on drawings for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability.
  • Aid in prototype development, product improvements, and design revisions driven by shop feedback, testing outcomes, and customer requirements.
  • Operate efficiently in a fast-paced setting while meeting project timelines and handling urgent drawing requests across multiple priorities.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical certificate in CAD Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of CAD drafting/design experience preferred; manufacturing or mechanical design experience strongly preferred.
  • SolidWorks proficiency required or strongly preferred; AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar mechanical CAD platforms are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drafting standards, blueprint reading, dimensions, tolerances, and drawing organization.
  • Ability to create drawings for machined, welded, fabricated, and assembled components.
  • Ability to work from sketches, redlines, verbal direction, shop measurements, and sample parts.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple drawing revisions.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, operations, procurement, and shop teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
